On Wednesday February 8th the Oxford Bowling teams went to Clarkstons Cherry Hill North bowling center to take on the Wolves. The boys needed to upset the OAA leaders to have a chance at the OAA title and the girls were looking to take control of second place. The results were less than favorable for our Wildcats.
The boys got wiped 28 to 2 with the ONLY highlight a great game by Brandon Hurlburt. Brandon had the first 8 strikes in game 2 and ended up with a 278 finish.
The girls came out strong winning both baker games and holding 10 0 lead. After that the wheels fell off and Oxford only won 1 out of 10 matches to loss 19 to11. The only Wildcat to win a point was Alex Logan with a 177 game.
This was a real disappointment today. The kids had a good week of practice and we really didnt see this coming. We were off our game today and Clarkston bowled very well. I think this will motivate us for next week and for regionals.
The team would bowl Lake Orion on Thursday February 16 at Collier Lanes. The Lake Orion girls were looking to finish off an undefeated season and Boys of Lake Orion were trying to wrap up second place.
The Wildcat boys would again see their opponents shoot very well. After taking a 10 to 0 lead after the baker games, Lake Orion would bowl a season conference high 1139 game in game 1. The Oxford boys bowled well with a 1003 game but the match was over early as the Wildcats lost 26 to 4. The very talented but young Wildcats ended there season with a 4 and 4 conference record and a third place finish.
The boys bowled well but ran into a buss saw today. Lake Orion is a good team and should do well going forward.
The Ladies of Oxford took game 1 of baker 182 to 145. They lost baker game 2 179 to 203 but hung on to totals 361 to 348. This gave the girls a 6 to 4 lead going into head up play with the 7 and 0 Dragons. The Wildcats would win game 1 by 94 pins lead by Co-Captain Heather Lafnears 201. Also capturing wins in game 1 were Brooke Harris with a 158 to 150 and Caitlyn Wroblewski 176 to 149. The lady cats were going into game 2 with a 13 to 6 lead and could smell the upset. In game 2 the wildcats could only muster 2 wins. Co-Captain Colleen Walters tied the school record with an impressive 267 game and a win and Wroblewski won 201 to 147. Oxford would lose game 2 by only 10 pins giving them totals and the match. Oxford wins 17 to 13. This will give Oxford a second place finish in the very tough OAA red division and a record of 5 ½ and 2 ½.
The team needed this victory today. It will be a great boost for them going into the OAA tournament this weekend and into Regionals.
Congratulations to JV Bowlers Eric Jahn 226, Paul Tomaka 210 and Andrew Grant 201.
